ORIGINS

LightForce was developed in response to concrete technical limitations encountered during more than a decade of designing, integrating, and flight-testing advanced autonomous aircraft systems. Our team has developed and operated over 30 bespoke aircraft across a wide range of sizes, types, and mission profiles, including one of Europe’s largest fully autonomous platforms, with experience spanning structured flight-test, certification planning, and regulatory engagement.

Across these programs, we evaluated the full range of available flight control and autonomy solutions. High-end closed systems frequently functioned as opaque “black boxes,” limiting architectural transparency, customization, and long-term sovereignty, as well as the application of standards-based, certifiability-oriented development practices. Open-source platforms offered flexibility, but often lacked the deterministic behavior, system hardening, and integration discipline required for high-consequence autonomous operations.

LightForce was created to bridge this gap. The result is a transparent, extensible autonomy and autopilot architecture developed using recognized aviation standards and validated through real-world operation, engineered to serve as the reliable “nervous system” for next-generation autonomous platforms.
